DJI Design & Construct was asked to provide full turnkey services to refurbish award winning 2003 De Blacam & Meagher building on the corner of Castle Street & Werburgh Street in Dublin.
The upper floors were extensively refurbished on behalf of an American IT company. Key to this project was the location of a substantial communications center / IT room to facilitate the new tenant
The key objective was to maximise the natural light and views from this corner site, whilst respecting the architecture. We opted for a monochromatic palette in order to complement the rectilinear format of the building and it’s fenestration, using reflective surfaces to bounce light. High performance internal glazing was utilised and the building was fully rewired in order to support the technological requirements of the incumbent tenant.
We included double height voids in the GA to allow us to drive light into spaces that would struggle otherwise. We stripped out the original shell, rerouting cabling, water & waste to suit the new configuration.
The key difficulties we’re dealing with awkward beam heights and columns located in central zones – opening out the boxy residential rooms was difficult but not impossible.
